For microphones and sound equipment:
This sale brings together some of the recording equipment that belonged to René Gambini, sound engineer and founder of the Lyrinx label. These microphones and equipment, used for many years to produce reference recordings, bear witness to a demanding and passionate approach to sound recording.
Their presence in this sale is also an opportunity to salute the memory of a sound craftsman whose work continues to be recognized and sought-after.
René Gambini (1935-2021), was a French sound recordist and producer, who founded the independent Lyrinx record label in Marseille in 1976 with his wife.
A pianist and specialist in recorded classical music, he devoted over forty-five years to the production of discs renowned for their high sound quality and natural approach to recording.
From the label's very beginnings, he has been committed to developing a demanding approach to recording, based on fidelity to instrumental timbre and respect for musical interpretation.
Convinced that the quality of a recording depends first and foremost on the acoustics and natural balance of the instruments, René Gambini favored simple, coherent microphone setups, avoiding any excessive intervention. This quest for authenticity was accompanied by a careful choice of recording locations, often halls or churches with proven acoustic qualities.
Over the years, the Lyrinx label's productions have won acclaim from music lovers and audiophiles for their transparency and sonic realism. On several occasions, he received awards such as the Grand Prix du Disque. René Gambini also kept a close eye on technological developments, contributing to the development of high-resolution recordings such as SACD, always with the aim of preserving the truth of sound.
He leaves an important discographic legacy and the memory of a sound craftsman deeply attached to music. His work continues to illustrate a demanding and sensitive conception of the art of sound recording, at the service of the musicians and works he helped to make heard.
