Bronze marine cannon modeled after the cannons of the Dutch East India Company, with two trunnions and five reinforcing rings, engraved "P. SEEST A° 1777" and below, in thunder, "A VOC". Light framed by a rhombus. Round knob. 18th century Total length: 102 cm (wear marks) Mounted on a red-lacquered wooden carriage with blackened iron fittings of 20th-century manufacture. History : The Dutch East India Company or VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie), founded in 1602, was one of Europe's most powerful trading companies. With a fleet of several thousand ships sailing from the United Provinces to the Indonesian archipelago, Amsterdam became the hub of European trade. The Company was dissolved in 1799 following the Dutch-English war (1780-1784). NB: SEEST Pieter - Born in Holstein in 1716, he was appointed foreman of the Amsterdam cannon and bell foundry in 1755.
