Revolutionary volunteer officer's saber, gilded brass mounting, chased lion's head pommel with long skirt, large scalloped guard featuring Hercules armed with his club, striking down the Hydra of Lerna. Flat-backed curved blade inscribed on one side with "Vaincre ou mourir" ("Win or die"), "La Loi et le Roi" ("The Law and the King") (scratched), decorated with foliage scrolls; on the other side, "La Nation La Loi" ("The Nation, the Law"), flowers and foliage.
