Tapestry, wool and silk, Aubusson, 17th century, between 166 - Lot 272
Tapestry, wool and silk, Aubusson, 17th century, between 1660 and 1669, after Isaac Moillon (1614-1673), Aeneas and Achate present themselves to Dido, with its black-background border of leaf garlands (wear, horizontal borders rewoven and tucked in). Aeneas and his companion, Achate, arrived at the temple of Juno, where Dido, Queen of Carthage (who had come from Tyre via the Mediterranean), was dispensing justice. At the same time, her companions, who had lost sight of each other during the storms, appeared in the same place, much to their surprise. 2.90 x 4.45 cm Similar pieces are in the Musée d'Aubusson, Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, etc. Nicole de Reyniès, Isaac Moillon, pp.208 & 209
