Tapestry Vertical tapestry border, wool and silk, Bruges, late 16th century, red ground, decorated with a medallion featuring a cherub's head on a halberd and crossed mace, below an angel carrying a basket of fruit on its head and above a fleurdelysé helmet, flags, armor and antique-style vases, braid on the right side of a garland of flowers, another braid added with scrolls and stylized flowers (reweaving, tufting). Border for the History of the Triumph of Julius Caesar hanging, based on cartoons by Andrea Mantegna. King Louis XIV owned a copy of this series, mentioned in an inventory of 1673. One set is in the King of England's collection at Hampton Court Palace. Reproduced in Guy Delmarcel, La Tapisserie Flamande, p. 187.
