Cashmere Long shawl, made by Frédéric Hébert, after 1863 and before 1867, red background, five-color paisley decoration of pendants in an arcature on either side of a black reserve bearing a signature, gallery on all four sides, harlequin border, gold stamp on back "SEULE MEDAILLE D'HONNEUR E.F.H. 1863". 3, 24 x 1, 51 m Monique Levi-Strauss, Cachemires Parisiens, p. 86: "After being named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, E.F. Hébert had a new half-moon cachet composed to replace the previous one. The gilded characters form the inscription: SEULE MEDAILLE D'HONNEUR E.F.H. 1863, the monogram E.F.H. is flanked by two crosses below which are inscribed the dates of the father's and son's appointment to the Order of the Legion of Honor" ... "The Hébert makers, attested to by the French Ministry of Culture, were the first to produce this seal. The Hébert makers, attested from 1815 to 1867, are to be ranked among the three or four best Parisian chairmakers".
