Folio from a manuscript of Nezâmi's Haft Peikar illustrated with Bahram Gur putting his vizier to death, Safavid Iran, probably 17th century provincial Manuscript folio on paper with 21 lines of text in four columns, in Persian nasta'liq in black ink, a title inscribed in gold in a cartouche. One side depicts King Bahram Gur enthroned, receiving his vizier for condemnation, his hands tied behind his back and a rope around his neck, escorted by two guards. In the background, seven male figures watch the scene, set against a golden sky. Sight size: 20 x 12 cm One large central fold, some restorations, foxing, curled paper. The Haft Peikar (Seven Portraits) is one of the five books of the famous Khamseh (Quintet) by the Persian poet Nezâmi (c. 1141 - 1209). Expert: Camille CELIER
