Six medallions from the queen's billiard table: - Lot 105
Six medallions from the queen's billiard table: Six lampas medallions woven as a replica of Charton's hanging for the winter furniture in Queen Marie-Antoinette's inner cabinet at the Château de Versailles, 20th century, style of 1779, after designs by Gondoin, cream satin ground, polychrome silk brocaded decoration of six medallions, with bagpipe music trophy, tambourine music trophy, wheat sheaf basket and hat, doves in love, quiver and arrows and birdcage, in a figured frame (mint condition, never cut). These medallions are woven separately and then reapplied to the hanging, set by embroidery. Charton's lampas pattern was rewoven for Empress Eugénie's apartments in the Tuileries in 1859, then from 1985 to 1988, for the billiard table in Marie-Antoinette's petits appartements in Versailles, with a slightly bluish background.
