Hanging, Ottoman Empire, attributed to Banja Luka, 19th cent - Lot 241
Hanging, Ottoman Empire, attributed to Banja Luka, 19th century, or perhaps Topkapi workshop in Istanbul, 17th century (?), gray felt embroidered with polychrome felt appliqué of a vase of flowers under a flowered arcature, arabesque border and sprays of flowers between braids (wear). To be compared with a panel from Kara Mustapha's tent in the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow. In his book, Julius Orendi, Das Gesamtwissen über Antike und Neue Teppiche des Orients, describes these embroideries as 17th-century Ottoman. We thank Mr. Christian Kircher for his kind communications. 1, 73 x 1, 01 m
