Georges Le POITEVIN (1912-1993) "Relevés rupestres du Tassili" (Surveys of cave paintings) Oil on canvas, signed G. Le poitevin, titled and located Sahara in lower right. 50 x 95 cm, with the frame (stick) 52 x 96 cm A small scratch on the lower left Georges le Poitevin received in 1945 the Ab-el-Tif prize in Algiers, the equivalent for travelling painters of the Prix de Rome at the Villa Médicis. He participates twice in the Henri Lhote mission in the Tassili, Algeria, where he surveys parietal frescoes. Then he settled permanently in Algeria where he became curator of the Tipaza Museum-Site near Algiers. He participated in many exhibitions, including the one organized at the Marsan Pavilion "Prehistoric Paintings of the Sahara" in 1957.
